Let's get this straight. I will agree that there have been media and political people on the left that have been "over the top" but only in style. I will not agree on relative honesty and integrity of both sides.
The left has had one huge advantage over the last decade when it came to public discourse. They have not had to lie to get their message across. Not one iota. Not one lick. If any of them did, they were stupid in my opinion. They were able to simply sit back and point their fingers at the other side - the untruths and distortions, the bigotry, the push for unbridled power, the raping of the economy, and the unjustified militarism. They didn't have to make shit up. They didn't need to distort the picture as the other side did. It's my opinion that the "over-the-top" part we've been seeing is simply what's required today to be heard above the din of corporate-run news organizations. Tell me how a liberal radio host on the one low-power station in a large metropolitan area can compete with 10 high-power conservative stations blasting out hours upon hours of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, etc. without resorting to some hyperbole to get out the message.
I listened and watched the media during the days when the Fairness Doctrine still helped to balance the media ownership and airtime and, although you had some dynamic personalities on the air, everyone got their piece of the pie, and you had little of the viciousness and hatred. It simply wasn't necessary to be heard.
That is why I'm angry and over the top and come across to you as some sort of raving liberal when I'm addressing Tom because I despise dishonesty and of all the people on here he's the shining example of Steven Colbert's "truthiness". It has nothing to do with liberal or conservative, red or blue. It has to do people that, in the quest of power and economic greed, are putting themselves and their party first above the rest of their community and nation. That isn't just a liberal position to stand up to that sort of individual. It's a human one that has been repeated throughout history in great societies.
Here's a link to a piece on Huffington Post that I think I'll also post by itself on Flame, a calling out (in terms often more inflammatory than many true liberals engage in) of the neocons by a solid and very conservative Republican. It will be interesting to see how long it takes before this person is completely disparaged by the hate-mongers.
