The Answer

Those that claim Bush conned us into going to war with Iraq by claiming Saddam was pursuing WMD.
Fact check - The previous Democratic administration believed the same thing.
Sure we were all wrong, but it was an honest mistake which I think we erred on the correct side of caution. We erred the wrong way with Hitler.

Those that believe the war was about cheap oil to boost oil company profits.
Fact Check - oil company profits rise with the cost of oil. Are there any doubters left after record oil prices and profits even among the most liberal here?

Those that believe Bush faught an illegal war.
Fact check -
1) Saddam violated the terms of the truce of the first gulf war and that was sufficient cause.
2) The UN security council threatened the severest consequences for continuing those violations.
3) The congress passed a resolution of a similar nature.

In truth neither of these have anything to do really with liberal philosophy. They are symptomatic of people so diametrically opposed to another side that they are willing to ignore all rational evidence to demonize the other side. I believe the only liberal frame of reference in common is a belief that war is wrong no matter the circumstances. It's a stance I can respect unlike the lies above, but not one I agree with. I also disagree with the attitude it's OK to fight against the war in any way you can even if it's dishonest especially when you are claiming honesty is an issue with the other side.

Common ground can not be found by ignoring reality, making up lies, demonizing the other side, and treating people with honest differences of opinion on the right thing to do as evil. It's always better to assume incompetance rather than malice especially with regard to the Bush admin.

Mark
