I declared myself, from the beginning, as being "somewhat left of center", or on a scale of 1-10, about a 3.5, with some leeway depending on the issue. But nothing but a 10 is good enough for the righties on this board, and anyone who doesnt agree with them is automatically a 1.

As for Mr Bush. He was an asshole. A well-meaning asshole, but an asshole nonetheless. Furthermore he would have remained an asshole even if he had been a liberal. Assholiness is absolutely non-partisan, I can assure you. And furthermore, those who protected him and made excuses for him simply to make cover up for their party are assholes too, but they are not well-meaning ones.

I am already starting to have my second thoughts about Obama, I'm having trouble seeing how what he's doing is going to help, but I also recognize it is way too early to make any judgements on his policies and I am ready to give him the benefit of a doubt for a couple of years. This is going to be a very difficult mess to clean up. Mind you, I don't expect him to solve our problems before the next election, but I do expect to see a change in direction for the better. When and if I am convinced he is incompetent or dishonest, I will oppose him publicly and I will not have to betray my politics to do so.

But I do know one thing. The far right has no solutions and no ideas. All they care about is making sure they have all the parachutes before the plane goes into its final spin.
