I understand. Today has been a dark day for all those who view conservatives as "circle-jerkers."

There's an ominous sound of thunder coming from the American right - and the whole world knows it has been shown up by that "dumb cowboy."

Who looks forward to seeing a bunch of conservatives on the CE board patting themselves on the back on their good assessment and wisdom? Heck, even I'm already nauseous at the thought of a how many days of self-congratulatory, gratuitous posts might be coming down the pike.

Liberals are not bad people - they are actually very good people who just see things a tad superficially, and so their goodwill is twisted into something that is not really as beneficial as it appears to them.

I was once a bleeding heart liberal and wanted to save the starving, cure the ill and sweep everyone up in a big government controlled utopia where even the homeless & jobless would have apartments to stay in until they got back on their feet. I wanted to see science subsidized in a large way and endless parades of government programs to reshape the landscape, updating slums, builing monorails between cities and planting beautiful gardens everywhere eyesores lurk.

Then I really thought about it. I really thought about it - and I realized there was no way the government could do that stuff without taxing the people into a form of dependant poverty or enslaving them. It would also force one person's vision upon the nation (or even world) and such was not in the best interests of mankind, who had to earn his utopia through greater understanding.

Yes that was some time ago. Now I see capitalism and freedom is the ticket to utopia on earth. Any other system will transform into a cage, even if it's a gilded one.

We still have hope for you Robert. We'll make a conservative out of you yet.
