"...but global warming will kill far more- it will ruin our quality of life, and in the third world it will be fatal...
The right seems to think its just a creation of loony leftists, but I HAVE looked at the science, it IS real... I would argue that global warming is one of the MOST immediate problems we face... it may not hit us for a decade or two, but the only chance to stop it is now...
so far the right laughs at the threat, and lumps it in with the lunatic lefties other claims.... BUT it isnt a lunatic alarmist theory, it is a fact."
Global warming is a fact, but the effects of human beings on global temperature is unknown. If Humans did not existance, there would still be global warming- that is also fact. The question is what effect has human activity have on increasing global temperature? The current focus on Global CO2 levels *may* be fairly irrevelant. For instance if the global CO2 levels were to double it's not clear that this would cause significant increases in global temperature. But what is clear is that there is a correlation between global temperature and CO2. It is possible that the higher global temperature could increases CO2 levels, rather than higher CO2 levels causing higher global temperature. What is known is that, in terms of geological time, recently we have had higher global temperature and we have had higher CO2 levels.
Now, allow me to drift into another subject which is never disccussed in regards to Global Warming. What about earth impactors? Now, if we get a really big impactor, the oceans evaporate and all higher and even the lower form of life miles below the ground perish. We haven't had this class of impactor hit Earth in billions of years, but we have had smaller impactors hits the Earth recently [again in geological time; ]. 75 million years ago rock around 10 km in diameter hit Earth. It caused earthquakes worldwide, it caused a huge tidal wave, and it incinerated large areas vegatation on Earth- we have a global layer of ash which marks this period. There was flash from entering the atmosphere, the flash from impact, and secondary impactor raining down globally. This was the famous impactor that killed the dinosaur. In the last 500 milion year there of course were other impactors- and bigger ones. Anyways the Dinosaur killer was the lastest extinction level impactor. Now, I don't what the global level of CO2 which resulted from this impactor but it seems to me it would be elevated.
Oh, then we have the Super Volcanos [e.g. Yellowstone Park], these would also significantly added to global CO2 levels. And of course long ago [in geological time] before plants managed to change the atmosphere of planet there wasn't any oxygen and there was very high level of CO2.
