The Left made a big mistake on the global warming issue. They got greedy.

Whereas I realized years ago that much of the current environmental movement is less about the environment and more about sticking it to the evil West and capitalism, it wasn't that obvious to the casual observer or politician.

Had the Kyoto accords been written so as to realistically take incremental steps to reduce CO2 output, rather than obviously written to cut America off at the knees while allowing Second and Third World nations that belch CO2 like nobody's business to get off scot free, maybe it would have gone over a bit better.

When deciding to ramp back Western civilization, it doesn't hurt to remember that poverty kills more people than any other cause on Earth.
