Hydrocarbons have better uses

That's why the whole global warming debate is a mute point and an unnecessary distraction. Hydrocarbons from petroleum and coal tar need to be conserved for lubricants, plastics, solvents, etc. When looking at mankind's needs for the next thousand years, burning gasoline in an internal combustion engine is simply crazy.
