Oil is getting harder to come by, and a lot of it is in places we don't get along well with. We get more oil from Canada, Mexico and Venezuela than from the Middle East. How's the government of Venezuela doing lately?
Nuclear power will ease our natural gas and coal use first, and our oil use later (transportation will need to move toward hydrogen, natural gas, or electrical systems to reduce oil needs), but every bit helps.
