Space/Science » in reply to How practical is dumping nuke waste into the Sun?

Negative factors include...

the possibility of launch failure spreading waste and the extreme cost. Currently, it costs about $10,000 a pound to put something into Earth orbit. Actually sending anything directly into the sun would require a tremendous amount of energy, so the cost would be a lot higher. Planetary slingshot maneuvers can supply some of the necessary delta-v, but by no means all of it.
