I'm not convinced that nuclear is a good idea

Nuclear waste storage is an unending expense, increasing with time. So far it hasn't been demonstrated that nuclear waste can be eliminated by breeder reactors or by burial.

Conservation is the best idea. GM and Ford just found that out the hard way. Even conservation has a limit though. Supermileage cars that get 1500 mpg or more have to reduce their mass to less than 40 kg, carry only the driver and no payload. Hopefully biofuels can support transportation without having to reduce vehicle mass *that* much. But it's the only way to go IMO, all highway speeds being equal. It's a basic law of physics.
