Rather than just being a representational liberal, I enjoy my individuality and construct my views based upon my personal views, experiences, education and observations.
I used "highways" as category meant to encompass all public purpose takings, inclusive of avigation easements, rights-of-way, condemnations, remainders, etc.
In the case of Disney, they bought their 27,000 acres on the open market and paid an average of $ 125. per acre for the property. They did much better than have a local government acquire the land for them, they got the state legislature to pass the Reedy Creek Drainage act, which virtuallly gave Disney the status of a county to themselves. They became their own taxing district, can effect their own rules and regulation which have the same effect as ordinances.
I fail to see the difference between a private corporation benefiting from a government agency being the condeming authority and taking land and bought and paid for legislation that cedes government control in perpetuity to a private corporation.
I might direct you to look at the various states bidding for auto plant production to locate. Public accomodation includes economics, especially in the era of the outsourcing of American jobs. Business is well aware they can be the lifeblood of a community and the community is more than willing to have some of their citizens bend over to get maximum benefit to the community at large.
I well understand your feeling this is morally reprehensible. Taking the sovereign lands of the Indian nations away from them, or California from the Mexicans has the same moral stigma. In the long run, weighing the benefits and cost, I favor both actions viewed from todays vantage point.
I guess your choice of amusement was correct after all. It is an "iconic liberal" view to have problems defining the good. The good is a matter of position: where you stand depends of where you sit.

- Also, about lost income, I referred to rental income.
- Tell that to the people in CT...
- Odds are good that middle- and lower-class property owners...
- Going back to the point that language has meaning and misuse leads to emotional misunderstanding..
