Hmm, once again put words in the mouths of people that don't see things your way. When someone points out that the actions of a country might create different reactions in people around the world suddenly you're accusing them of saying "We were asking for it"? Tom, you senseless child, nobody's asking for it when they're a victim of a crime. The bad guys are the perpetrators of the act. However, if the victim blatantly leaves their door open and unlocked living in a high crime area, they are simply not being as smart as they should have been. The victim has every right to leave their house wide open but their choice is not a good one for their chances of keeping the possesions they find dear.
Sure we have the "right" to go around acting as policemen of the world and many would claim this moral imperative but with this choice comes huge potential consequences. To point those out and weigh the risks is not cutting and running but simply using our intelligence to balance what our future is going to look like.
Now let's get to your term of "Isolationism". Obviously you only use it to refer to military action. Once again you can't see beyond the barrel of a gun. Are the Swedes isolated? Do the citizens of the Netherlands never travel beyond their borders? Of course not. They all interact daily with cultures all over the world but in a non-threatening and non-judgmental way. We have the potential to make huge differences in troubled cultures by our example and our generous nature instead of our violent interventions.

- "Could anyone still say, 'this is worth 30,000 deaths'?"
- Get real.

- Well, they were going to die sometime anyway, so Bush isn't really responsible.
