All right then.

Do you support the goal of establishing permanent Republican Party rule and giving up on democracy in America?

Wow. If that question was any more loaded it would pass out.

Assuming the idiotic fiction that somehow the election process will be neutralized forever, and given the choice between only those two parties in permanent power, which is like picking between strychnine and cyanide, I'll take the Republicans as the lesser of two evils. Happy?

As long as we're talking fantasies, how about a libertarian revolution, and Washington D.C. entering a long retirement as a historical tourist attraction and senators and congressmen finding their natural level selling snowglobes on the Mall?

Although they haven't written a book about it (since when does a talk show host's book keep you awake at night?), the Democratic Party is just as enthusiastic about neutralizing the Republican Party and obtaining a permanent majority in government. To emphasize my point, the Democrats want exactly the same thing. Does that bother you?

Again, where was all the concern from all the Sons of Liberty on the Left about "the destruction of democracy" when the Democrats held the entire government? Just one example please. I'll wait.

How long was the Liberal Party in Canada running things? Anybody concerned? I wasn't.

You want to know what I would really like to see? Realistic, not fantasy? I'd like to see some of the ridiculous level of power currently centralized in Washington returned to the state and local level. I want to see education, social spending, civil defense, and many other things becoming state and local issues. I want to see the Federal government out of the business of regulating and controlling almost every aspect of everything that is done in this country.

I want to see the Federal government's power reduced to the point where our presidential elections are no longer the equivalent of electing a goddam Emperor. It shouldn't be that critical to our existence who the president is.

Jerry Pournelle said that when he was young, it was more important to the average person who the Mayor was than who the President was. I like that.
