re: All right then.

Of course the question was loaded. We needed a little comic relief.

Tom, I don't believe that the Republicans will actually succeed, either. But that's not the issue, nor was it my question. I asked whether you support that goal.

Arguing only that it isn't feasible suggests that if you thought that Republicans could pull it off, you'd be all for it.

A permanent Republican majority is the declared goal of too many Republican opinion leaders to be anything other than an accurate statement of the Party's official goal. It's not just Hewitt, who claims to represent The Blessed Base, it's Norquist and DeLay and Frist and Rove representing the Party Machine too. And that makes it a whole different kettle of fish than the happenstance of one party remaining in office for a long time. To make that the goal is to pledge to take action, and not leave it to chance. It's a strategy, not just a desired outcome.

I should warn you that your failure to endorse The Goal wholeheartedly puts you on shaky ground with the powers-that-be. Hewitt spends a lot of time in his book in a roaring flying-spittle denunciation of the lily-livered faint-hearted ideologically impure RINO scumbags who won't submit to Party disicipline, and vows that Jeffords and the Gang of 14 and the other traitors to the cause, even McCain, will rue the day they defied the Party. You have no choice but to support the goal of a permanent Republican majority, or forfeit your Party membership and thus your future voting rights as an American. Tough choice, dude.
