Why do you assume people are so easily brainwashed?

I had an english teacher that was a loony leftie- I ripped her philosophy apart and she gave me an F on an important assignment- I fought the loon and forced her to give me the grade I deserved (I deserved an A, but she gave me a B-) She thought I was some neo nazi right winger... She was an idiot... College students are capable of seeing a teacher's bias. I have had many classes where a teacher was biased to one side or the other and most of the students saw the bias.

I had 2 history courses that I enjoyed FAR more than I thought I would- one was 19th and 20th century history taught by a very lefty woman- she often would break into diatribes on her political beliefs that disgusted most students - even those that agreed with her. The other was a course on the causes and progress and aftermath of the civil war taught by a gay man with a rather right wing political view.... I ignored his personal political view and learned a hell of a lot.

Since I was a high school dropout, I really had not been exposed to History... I found that I really found it fascinating. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it- I read one book that was essentially the (REAL) diary of a wife whose husband was captured by the British during the revolutionary war- it blew me away, I could NOT put it down. What stunned me was that when her husband was captured, the British let him go back home to settle his affairs on the condition that he return for his incarceration... They just expected that he would return as a point of honor. And he did just that... It was a very alien world....

I also 'had' to read the book 'Killer Angels' - a book on the civil war- it also engrossed me, when I saw 'Saving Private Ryan' many years later the book kept coming up in my memory.

The teacher's bias never rubbed off on me- it might have annoyed me- but I saw the bias on both sides and took away only what I saw as the fundamental truths from the course.
