Science as a discipline can indeed be killed at its roots. Make it weak by weakening its standards. Refuse to support a rigorous adherence to its methods because of conflict with religious belief. It will collapse.
When people like you and R.L. can be made to realize that this killing of ideas is also true not just for science, but for political philosophies based on individual freedom and human rights (which are rare enough in this world), I'll have finally gotten my point across.
People in schools are being taught to despise the ideas and values that made this country what it is. That's something to worry about, too, and apparently political freedom is a bit more fragile than the scientific method. Even North Korea has skilled scientists.
