Yeah, in LA the schools, post offices, city hall, DMV and libraries may display a flag and that's about the only place you will see it outside of a car dealership.

You are just 100% dead wrong on this one. We are swimming in flags. In the town where I live (14 minutes from LA when there is no traffic), on the main patriotic holidays, about half of the houses display flags.

In fact last Saturday we had "Cruise Night" where the main drag was blocked off featuring classic cars, food booths, etc. Also a live variety show including a Sha Na Na fragment that was opened with a color guard, pledge of alegiance, and the national anthem.
