Yes. It's a well oiled machine.

A good book publisher, like a promoter of stock issue, has a network that delivers a certain number of guaranteed sales. Depending on how hard they push, the target market, etcera, the sales can be increased.

Coulter's been all over the media for the past month and commenting on current events as her book is mentioned by both friend and foe. Leno is worth X number of copies. Each MSNBC appearance, Fox appearance, X number and so on. If your publisher feels your book will go the extra mile, they will go the extra mile to promote it and push it till its at your supermarket checkout stand in its paperback fifth printing.

Sure Coulter's content says something about reader interest. Controversy sells. Even her book title is designed not just to appeal to conservatives, but pique interest in the book by religious folks in general who feel in any way persecuted. Book selling requires a very packaged, calculated marketing approach - and Coulter's words with the publishers push is delivering.

To be quite honest Coulter's writing style doesn't appeal to me at all. It's targeted to a less sophisticated demographic and always self-consciously blunt/harsh for maximum salability. That get's tiresome very quickly. Just like listening to Mary Matalin got tiresome very quickly. Male polarity females using gender as a commercial tool are generally abrasive and unsympathetic - regardless of their message, political affiliation, etcetera.
