I haven't read the book.
But I have spent time at the Rockridge Institute web site, and not for the first time today.
Do you really think watering down the concept of political freedom by including existential freedoms is new? Do you think trying to reframe leftist concepts to make them palatable is something Lakoff thought up?
You bring up a person and organization dedicated to unlinking language from objective reality and have the nerve to invoke "Orwell" at me?
From the Institute's web site:
The Rockridge Institute is a non-profit, non-partisan think tank dedicated to strengthening our democracy by providing intellectual support to the progressive community.
...As a tax-exempt non-profit research and educational institution, the Rockridge Institute does not endorse or oppose any candidate for elected office or any political party.
That a Berkeley professor and his organization, who declare themselves "progressives" in every third paragraph, and crap on the Republicans in almost every document on their website, can make a statement like that and expect you to believe it, really shows what "framing" is all about.
Mostly, it's the firm belief that your audience can't think.
