I've heard them say alot of things:

They don't want war, etc, etc.

But at the same time, they issue veiled threats. "We are here." It subtly suggests that they are indeed on the side of the terrorists if they are pushed far enough, or if they don't get what they want, such as room for their religious dogma to grow and subvert our culture.

I'm not in the least convinced that they are peaceful in nature, and the news I've read for decades is a witness to their tendancy for conflict.
