If you chose to stay and fight, well, that's war. War by nature is an act of genocide, and the most genocidal strategy is the one that wins. Overwhelming firepower doesn't guarantee victory if it doesn't kill the enemy. If you aren't willing to employ certain strategies because you find them morally offensive, then your enemy has an edge.
