Satisfying the atheist

"Satisfying" is a pretty vague term Frank because, were all the Christians in the US happy with that viewpoint that the science is valid but the creator they believed in designed the physics that allowed for evolution, then why would any atheist be threatened by that? Sure it's nice to have others around that believe as you do but I also love the diversity of life and human thought.

What is bothersome though about the way most creationist theories are presented is that it's once again this black and white, either/or situation. When you're a non-believer and the believers outnumber you 9 - 1, that lack of nuance can get downright dangerous to life and limb if it's not challenged periodically.

These cretins that want to throw away science in schools because it doesn't jive with their interpretation of their faith are exactly the same type of folks that, if they gained real political clout and muscle, would start Inquisition #2.

A number of people I know in the sciences still cling to some little spiritual side and the possibility of some creation force that started it all and I in no way find them stupid or ignorant. The discussions we've had have never been heated or hate-filled because we know the other side is at least using intellectual reasoning and scientific methodology to find their own answer. The science only goes so far because of the enormous amounts of time and distance involved. I fully understand a fertile imagination filling in some of them with a bit of magic where my mind is satisfied with dealing only with the things I can put my finger on and assuming infinite boundaries where I cannot measure.
