You just sit down and do a budget. Take the poverty line and add 10%. See how you would make ends meet on that. Now add a kid to that budget. Now try to imagine what it would feel like after 10, 15, 20 years of scrambling up that hill what it would be like to hear someone talk about how you live in such enviable digs.
