"How much of our biology, geology and astronomy is ACTUALLY being influenced by this?"

None, yet. But the effect is inevitable and insidious and it must be nipped in the bud. It is child abuse.

This is not just a freedom of religion or speech issue. There is no reason why God could not have chosen evolution to direct biological diversity, just as he chose Newton's laws to direct the motions of the planets. This is what Darwin himself believed! Likewise, it is obvious to everyone (or should be) that how we do science has nothing to do with our religious beliefs.

This is a direct attempt to use the schools to implant in the minds of children, using the authority of the classroom and the state, that the LITERAL interpretation of scripture is equivalent to scientific method and the current scientific orthodoxy, an extreme minority position which even most Protestant Christians reject. Not only biology, but astronomy and geology directly conflict with Genesis, which means that this position can be used not merely to attack them, but to establish this religious doctrine in the classroom immune from attack, and any other political, cultural or religious position associated with it as well.

The same Genesis Police which will no doubt enforce this statute will be there to make sure the rest of the political and cultural baggage associated with this superstition is crammed down the throats of America's children.

Look at it from a different point of view. How would you feel if Marxism had to be taught in the classroom, to children, as an "alternative" to capitalist economics? I'm not talking about college courses, or individual professors who choose to include it in their curriculum, or elective classes, or even mandatory units in courses in comparative economics. I'm talking about kids being indoctrinated with Red Pioneer dogma in public school classrooms (just as an "alternative" to the other, of course, only in the interest of fairness) by government direction and legislation. Even I would find this objectionable, even though I do not reject all socialist principles nor blindly accept all capitalist dogma. And if socialist parents tried to get a law like this passed I would fight them too.

I know you may not agree, but I believe that socialist and capitalistic principles can be integrated into political economy to produce a synthesis of value. I also believe that whether we accept one or the other is largely of matter of taste and personal preference. But I do not believe this applies to religious fundamentalism, a doctrine which accepts one and only one interpretation of scripture and views as a mortal sin punishable by eternal damnation any deviation from that belief. I'm not going to be politically correct about it. This is intellectual and moral poison and must never be allowed to flourish with government support.

On a more personal note, I have often noticed you occasionally defend creationists, and even are sympathetic to their views, even though you yourself are a self-described evolutionist. Is this because you feel these people are often allied to some of your other political positions, and often opposed to your political opponents? Or do you feel that attacks on creationists are unfair while Muslim radicals and fundamentalists seem to be be dealt with excessive tolerance by the society even though some of their political activities are certainly much more violent and dangerous. I'm not being facetious or trying to put you on the spot, here, it's just something I noticed.
