What you call fundamentalist is the standard view that most Americans have always had, yey America has thrived and become a superpower. How many people in America viewed Genesis as the literal truth when the Wright Brothers took to the air, or when penicillin was discovered, or when Goddard was building his rockets?
Agnostics and atheists have an easier time of it now than at any other time in our history. Maybe if the secularists weren't so fanatical about perverting our children or spewing their filth into the popular culture, there wouldn't be such a backlash by religious folks.
