The notion of self detemination is the basis of international law.
States cannot interfere with internal matters of other sovereign states.
It goes way back to 1648, long before the existence of the USA.
It's the principle guiding the UN.
Only if there's an imminent threat, can attacking another country be justified. That's why Wolfowitz needed the WMD claim to try to convince the Security Council.
I'm continuously pissed off by what your country has done: attack another country, unprovoked. Democracies DON'T DO THAT!
Saddam a bad guy? Yes, of course, but so is Kim Jong Il and others.
International law doesn't care what's going on inside a country, as long as it doesn't interfere with other countries. It's already a lot to try to get countries to cooperate on who's got the right to fish where, who's got the right to pollute this river crossing that country, etc..
if you want another country to act a certain way, you must do it in such a way that it will comply (and Saddam was giving more and more access to the UN inspectors, just last year), but if you invade it anyway, you loose all the advantages you had by forcing it through persuasion.
Learn international law.

- I'm sure the Germans likewise appreciate Americans scolding them about genocide, since we have an outstanding background with our Native nations.
