...the fact that the very "medicine" you theorize England or France might have applied against Germany, was what Hitler, in fact, had in mind for Soviet Russia, the so-called Bolshevik Menace.
Germany, you may recall, had already suffered "a bloody nose" in WWI, and had suffered through reparations, hyperinflation, and an economic war (boycott) declared by Jews against the Nazi regime.
At the same time, the world was sick of war, and as Chamberlain's desperate measures showed, was willing to go to almost any length in an effort to avoid it. Hindsight shows that Hitler could not be placated, but let us not forget that it was the Nazis who first engaged in pre-emption. The attacks on the Western Front were primarily meant to secure his rear before Hitler turned the Wermacht on the real foe of Nazi Germany, and that was Soviet Russia.
Raoul and other Europeans will forgive me, I hope, for my attempts to condense pre-war European history into a paragraph or two, but I cannot resist making this hurried attempt to set the record straight on this most important issue:
Civilized nations do not start wars.

- I'm sure the Germans likewise appreciate Americans scolding them about genocide, since we have an outstanding background with our Native nations.
