"Simple", is right

Pointing out that tolerance and consideration of other people's viewpoints is part of my work is not whining. It's part of the job description, of which you have scant knowledge. It's part of the challenge, and I like it. Quit twisting my words.

I recently read a description of my job: "a series of pop quizzes every day in which you never know the subject ahead of time." It's fun. I enjoy it, and I don't resent the work.

Some people lack the ability to put their own hardships in perspective. I guess you fall into that category.

Still trying to get me to step down into that hole you think I should be standing in, eh? Sorry. You're wrong again. I don't consider most of what occurs at my job to be a hardship.

Your wife put up with a lot in her work. I respect that, and I also believe that working conditions for nurses need to improve if we are to have any in the future.

However, to say that one person shouldn't consider personal assault a serious issue because other people are murdered all the time is silly. Your comparison reminds me of the justification doctors gave to my father-in-law, who contracted Hep-C as a result of contaminated blood received during surgery and was very upset: "Another man who had that surgery that day got AIDS from his transfusion, and he's going to die!" I don't think being struck should be part of anyone's job description no matter where they work, except for boxers. If you consider this "whining", then fine.

Since part of your job is justified by the work you do for government agencies, perhaps you could reevaluate how you feel about government spending. Are taxes only OK if they're paying for projects you're working on?

Frankly, that struck me as being a busybody and perhaps a gossip.

I have served on community committees because someone has to serve on committees if things are going to get done and I was asked. I know about stuff because people tell me, and because I keep my eyes open. Gossip requires repetition. I don't chatter in my neighborhood, which is part of the reason I continue to hear as much as I do.

If giving up my time to work for my community is being a busybody, then I'm guilty. If conservatives consider civic indifference to be a virtue, that would partially explain why liberals have "taken over" your little corner of the world.

It's none of your business. . .

When other people's behavior results in health problems for my family, it's not only my business, but my obligation to work toward remediation of the problems. Find me one place where I said driving certain cars should be illegal, and I take it all back.

You came across as arrogant, judgmental and jealous.

"Jealous" means obsessive possessiveness. It's misused frequently. I think you mean "envious".

You came across as wrong. You jump to conclusions and then you call me names and throw out red herrings to cover your error. You never really addressed the subject of the post.

Mary Anne
