Republicans can be just as restrictive in local zoning, when they have the majorities on local zoning boards. Is it better to tell people they can't park their RVs in their own driveways and hang up wash in their back yards if you are a local and a Republican? Clotheslines are so low-rent...
We have considerable development in this area, with people building houses on farmland. They move here for the "conservative values" and then they go to township meetings and insist that the dairy farm across the road, the one with the 100-year-old barn and the road named after the family, do something about the flies and the smells that are ruining their barbecues.
These are Republicans, too. Democrats aren't the only ones who attempt to tell other people how to live.
