I KNEW it was going to be a good day.
Get up and go run for township supervisor or whatever you have out there, and quit whining that liberals are out to get you.
Excellent point. I guess that's what separates us talkers from the doers when it comes down to it.
One of the reasons I find libertarianism so appealing is that I really like the idea of a society where people of many different ideologies are not living in constant dread of having other people impose their whims on them under force of law. Larry is worried about this, I am worried about this, and from your many posts on having ideologies shoved up your nose, you would have to agree that you are also worried about this.
That this worry translates into hyperbole, or even downright shrillness sometimes, is understandable if not always excusable. I really feel like I'm surrounded sometimes. I'm sure you know the feeling well.
Everyone who supports increased government power over the individual always subconciously assumes that said government will always be in agreement with their own ideas. This isn't always true. Once the principle has been established that centralized power has no real limits, it is entirely possible--almost certain--that such power will fall into the hands of people you don't agree with.
There are many problems to be solved in our nation and elsewhere. There are often plausible solutions that lean toward increased centralized control, and equally plausible solutions that lean toward individual choices. Neither have guaranteed results, but if we have to make a mistake, I would rather err on the side of individual freedom.
From what I have seen of your posts, fighting against having someone else's standards forced on you, I think that basically you agree with this.
