Thank you, Tom.
Ozone is a problem where there is a lot of emissions, and not a lot of air movement. The ozone is generated by the action of sun and heat on the emissions (Nitrogen oxides and volatiles), not directly from the pollution sources themselves.
Very true. So the solutions to the air pollution problems could be:
a) Everybody move away from high-ozone areas. I vote for Larry's place, which he says is relatively uninhabited. Oh, wait -- that's probably one reason for the mass migration of homo californiansis and the subsequent infestation of community institutions with busybody liberals. Nevermind.
b) Install giant fans in problem areas to encourage air flow, and a more equitable distribution of pollutants. Of course, part of our problem here is air flow more equitably distributing pollutants from major metropolitan areas...
c) Reduce the amount of pollutants by various means. Here is where I agree that SDAI has a point about bus emissions and truck emissions. We have big ol' feed trucks around here, and I've driven behind them frequently. Let's bring back the electric trolleys and the freight trains!
d) Reduce the amount of sunlight and ambient heat by turning down the sun.
I think option c) is the most workable, don't you? :D
Or maybe the price of liberty is lung disease.
