This is Pennsylvania. I work for a public library that receives less than half of its budget from the state. I work for a private institution that serves the public (hence the name, "public library") that is supported by private donations and municipal aid that's granted year by year. We don't charge our patrons for anything except photocopying and printer fees. No memberships, nothing. Our state funds are matching funds that depend on our own fundraising. I answer to a director, who answers to a board of trustees made up of prominent people in the community. Period.
I have my Federal and state taxes withheld just like the rest of the world. I don't have tenure. I don't even have a retirement plan, and any insurance I have through work, I pay for myself.
My education was financed by Uncle VISA.
If I violate the state privacy laws concerning my patrons, I WILL be fired and I can also be sued. I can also be fired for a plethora of other reasons, just like the "real world", which this is.
Is there anything else you care to be wrong about today?
