<In the meantime, if Canada comes to the US to airlift troops and equipment somewhere, we'll just say no.
In view of the fact that the Canadians have sent troops and equipment out in support of American or Allied military efforts rather than on Canadian national missions, this strikes me as a very counterproductive attitude.
So we keep our toys and they keep their boys. They have to stay home because we won't give them a ride... aw, shucks. If I were a Canadian mother, this wouldn't seem like a bad trade to me. Especially if my boy were in a unit that received casualties from friendly fire.
As an aside: The same people who need smelling salts if the UN suggests that nations ought to speak up for the world's children, lest Idi Amin's younger brother take over the US Department of Health and Human Services as a UN inspector, have no problem telling one of our oldest friends that they had better turn over part of their own national budget to US interests. Huh. Tell me, if the situation were reversed, and we had a border-neighbor (who was armed to the teeth) telling us we need to spend more on armaments to support a war effort they were leading, would Americans be a little upset? Would we hear the words, "Who the f....... do they think they are?" I think maybe we would.
If we bully our friends, pretty soon we won't have any, though we will have plenty of resentful allies and synchophant satellites. If other nations are with us only because we are the lesser of two evils, what will that make us once the greater of two evils is defeated?
