<Canada can choose to build or buy more transport planes to meet their military needs. Or, they can pay us to lease our planes on an as-needed, as available basis.
"Their military needs". OK. Not ours. Also OK.
So if we ask them to dance, it's still our nickel. We will, of course, be the ones to ask. On Saturday. At 5:30 in the evening. Because Canada is just waiting dateless by the phone.
If they need to conquer Tahiti, I'm sure they'll get their own ride.
We could well reduce our military to a tiny fraction of its current size and cost if other countries shouldered their own defense expense. Europe in particular is playing us for suckers. I spent two years over there and saw the situation firsthand.
If this is about Europe, then quit picking on Canada.
If we reduced the size of our military and other nations shouldered their own defense expense, we couldn't push them around, either. We might actually have to forget gunboat diplomacy in favor of the more traditional variety. Can you really see that happening? I can't.
What I can see is the US going into one of its periodic isolationist sulks, but not yet.
