We wouldn't have to spend so much if other countries took care of themselves
We have some 130,000 troops stationed in Europe. Why? I don't know what the current percentage is, but during the Cold War, roughly 1/3rd of our defense budget each year went to protect Europe. If the Europeans picked up their share of the load, we could save tens of billions every year. Same for Asia and Canada. I agree that we pay too much for defense spending. Now, all we have to do is start cutting back on our foreign commitments and let the deadbeats pay their own way. If they're unwilling to pay for their own defense, why should we do it?
