re: Spin, spin, spin

It has not entirely escaped my notice that of all the many statements and reasons given for our actions in Iraq, only this single one seems to have attained a sufficient level of implausibility for the mainstream press to pound on it. I notice that nobody talks about the buried trailers any more, or many other trial balloons of this nature that were floated to try and nail Bush to the wall.

I have also noticed that evidence that does support the existence of illegal weapons in Iraq prior to the invasion is utterly ignored. Not refuted, ignored. It is ignored by the press and it is ignored here.

Just one example:

Much is made of a few parts of Powell's presentation to the U.N. that are controversial. Nothing is mentioned of parts that seem to confirm all the suspicions about WMD. Recordings of Iraqis moving and hiding things in advance of inspections. Bunkers with decontamination equipment parked outside. Removal of missile components in advance of inspections. Slides of biological production trailers that are a perfect match for the ones later found. These are not hydrogen making facilities for balloons. I researched such systems, and they do not look anything like this, including the ones manufactured by Marconi.

Alteration of records. Replacement of hard drives in suspect facilities.

Much is made of the aluminum tubes in the media. Ignored is the fact that they were illegal for Iraq to possess under weapons agreements in ANY case. Also ignored are the magnets and high-speed balancing devices Iraq also acquired, which are also part and parcel of a centrifuge program.

For Saddam to be as innocent as everyone makes him out to be, our intelligence agencies, and those of Britain and other nations, would not have had to lie or screw up once, or twice, or ten times, but dozens of times. All of the above and much more would have to be either mistaken or false. I do not find this plausible.

Everything Iraq did in the decade of the 1990s, up until the attack, shows a consistent pattern of not destroying contraband, but moving and hiding it, all the while lying and evading authorities. That such contraband was moved and hidden is much more plausible IMO in light of all the evidence than the idea that it was never there.
