Okay, setting aside the short ton of WMD documents currently being pored over in Iraq as we speak, if there are no WMD in Iraq or systems for producing them, where did they go? Why aren't they there? He certainly used to have them, and had no documentation or proof for their destruction.
Did Saddam really destroy everything on his own? Did Saddam really just decide one day last year to give up the ambition to possess these weapons that obsessed him for decades? Destroyed every last bit--secretly--long before we attacked? That would be one reason that the nation of Iraq would be empty of such things prior to the attack. Do you really buy that scenario?
And if he had already disarmed, why the hell did he behave like he did during the inspections, while surrounded by troops? Other nations have been disarmed peacefully, including South Africa. They cooperated fully. Their behavior was totally different. Saddam's regime dragged its feet all the way. Why were files moved and destroyed? Facilities rearranged? Items concealed? Why were scientists under threat of death if there was nothing left to hide? Why were Iraqi troops equipped with gas defense systems?
Did he move everything out of the country? I don't know. It seems unlikely to me he would place such things under the possible control of even supposed allies.
Or did he just hide everything? Maybe weapons, certainly methods of producing them. You don't like that answer, but that's the one I'm going with until further notice. It makes more sense than anything else. Saddam hoped to ride out the inspections, and whatever attack might take place, and come back much later to dig everything out.
Davin pretends I never asked these questions. He insists the weapons weren't there at all, and refuses to speculate on why they weren't there, which is a critical question. Maybe I can get some theory out of you.
