"but my proposition that there were weapons and/or weapons factories is more plausible than your proposition that Saddam pursued these things singlemindedly for decades, in the face of the U.N. and other opposition, and then suddenly gave it all up "
And there is no evidence AT ALL, with 140,000+ trooops on the ground, to support that Iraq had WMD of the quantities claimed by the Administration. Given that there is no evidence for your proposition- I reject it [your prop] as pure supposition UNTIL such time as you have support. Thats the way objectivity works, Tom- Sorry! Currently, you have a belief 'that WMD' and a (conspiracy)theory for why your belief is not justifiable from empirical evidence. Furthermore, that conspiracy theory is set upon the foundation of 'sounds reasonable' and not on any further facts.
So your position here is EQUIVALENT to those held by folks we both hold as discountable concerning the Yeti, Little Green Men, and Loch Ness. Namely:
1) Belief in a proposition in the absence of empirical support
2) Explanation of the lack of empirical support being that some conspiracy to hid 'THE TRUTH' is afoot by sinister elements
3) Providing no empirical justification for said conspiracy- meerly saying 'how much sense' it makes and pointing to how it 'explains' that there is no support for the original hypothesis.
So, in the end, If you want to predicate a pre-emptive total war on the existence of those things, and the terrorist ties to deliver them, you better be able to show them to be there or give DECISIVE and CLEAR proof that they were moved, destroyed etc. Otherwise, (true or false?) you F'd up hardcore. Don't you think? Otherwise, you are using UFO and YETI reasoning to justify matters of national policy and decision making. Don't you think thats screwy?
And if we are to take unjustified killing as murder, then what do you think we must conclude about our government and its actions?
