Blatant misdirection, Tom

"For Saddam to be as innocent as everyone makes him out to be, our intelligence agencies, and those of Britain and other nations, would not have had to lie or screw up once, or twice, or ten times, but dozens of times."

Nobody holds Saddam as truthful, innocent or any other character trait that is consistent with anything other than 'scum bucket'.

To make this controversy into a binary dichotomy between Saddam the noble and Saddam the scum bucket is an attempt to misdirect the discussion.

The discussion, you should be reminded, is about: 'Saddam and Iraq was or was not a clear an immediate to the United States REQUIRING pre-emptive military action- as claimed by the Administration. AND was this clear demonstrably true without the use of subterfuge or intentional exaggeration of intelligence available at that time'

If you try to turn it into a 'Saddam- good or bad' discussion, then of course you will when.

But we did not invade Iraq on the basis of Saddam being PigShit. We invaded Iraq upon the basis that it was a threat to our national security.

AQnd it is this claim that has turned out to be DRAMATICALLY untrue in the post-war world. So untrue, that one must really warp their heads to not conclude that either subterfuge or incompetence is not to blame for the claims being made in the first place.

But, maybe you can convince us that the sky is a nice republican red at noon. Partisanship supervenes, perhaps, on reality?
