Some commentators go so far as to suggest that Saudi Arabia may or should be the next target. While I don't know if I'd go that far, I do know there's ample evidence that members of the Saudi royal family (some 5,000 members strong) have indeed been supporting terrorism directly or indirectly. They have also promoted what may be the most extreme version of Islam, too.
In public, the Bush Administration says that Saudi Arabia is a partner in the war on terrorism. Behind the scenes, they may well be. The Saudi monarchy has walked a fine line for a long time. Perhaps they are helping us quietly, afraid of public support for fear of a backlash with the extremist elements in their country. Or perhaps the public message we're sending is very different than the private one behind the scenes. The problem with this sort of speculation is that we may never know for sure.
