I , too was born 1954 (the same as Mary Anne).I was raised in Cortland, N.Y., 30 miles S. of Syracuse.
I remember the drills vividly. We were all lined up in the gymnasium hall,standing up against the wall, with our arms covering our heads....Because I was so young, and the adults weren't forth coming at all about the world situation...I had nary a clue as to what was going on.
My husband went to school in Hastings, Fla....he did have Duck and Cover, too. He went under his desk, just like the films.
