Ah Long Beach -The Art Theatre, the Queen Mary and the Pike, before they tore it down. They have had a Grand Prix for decades down there. And Ralph Waldo is near Eldorado Park. They had a giant rocket ship on the kids' playground there...kids would climb to the top where the big navigation wheel was and shake the thing pretending to encounter meteors in deep space.
...freaky friday.
Yeah, in CA schools the air raid drills and earthquake drills are merged now in my memory, though the siren only sounded for the air raid drill and fire drills had a bell ringing. Both duck and cover affairs except for the fire drill where you walked out slowly to the field and watched your school burn down while standing in an orderly line. I always remember how slowly and awkwardly the older teachers climbed under their desks and thought that if the bombs were really falling they weren't going to get under their desk quick enough to protect them from the falling roof and walls.
Move Mrs. S move! ;-)
