Okay, let's skip to the politics

I have no hard opinions about what we should do about it, and for loons here to paint my position as being anti-technology is dishonest in the extreme. I want us to find a way to deal with this issue that ideally does not reduce our standard of living in any way, or even better results in an improvement.

That's admirable, but unfortunately the majority of those actually driving the climate change bus are the ones who think massive restrictions on our lives are the solution of choice.

For every environmentalist like Lovelock (who supports nuclear power), for every person who wants to find a way to solve the problem while maintaining our freedom and technological civilization, there are probably fifty socialist idiots who are drooling over an opportunity to finally get their hands firmly on the controls. The climate is the best excuse they've come up with in a long time.

It starts with little "harmless" trial balloons like outlawing incandescent light bulbs, restricting the size of cars, and making fireplaces illegal.

Believe me, it will end with ideas that they've lovingly nurtured for years, like nationalizing energy and transportation, or setting restrictions on the number of children you can have. You think this stupid global warming issue is the first time I've heard of most of these people and organizations? That I haven't been reading and listening to their wet dreams since college?

You get someone running the World Wildlife Fund (organizer of Earth Hour, BTW) off somewhere with a few drinks in them, and it ain't about the pandas any more. I didn't find this article the least bit surprising. Do you? Another article here.

Here's the important part:

One of the greatest international repositories of these collectivist idiots is the United Nations.

Right now the foundation of this entire issue is the IPCC. A number of those scientific organizations supporting AGW made statements in that Wikipedia list that boiled down to "The IPCC? What they said."

The IPCC is a creature of the United Nations.

Any rational person would find this significant when judging the IPCC and its output. At least as significant as when skeptical writings are judged solely because they have even the remotest connection to energy interests.
