"Step 1: Do you agree that CO2 is a gas that tends to let shorter wavelength light pass through easily but tends to block longer wavelength light (like radiant heat)? And that CO2 has "greenhouse" qualities?"
Greenhouses mainly block convectional heat lost of it's air, so it's not really a great analogy. But there may not anything else which comes close to what greenhouse gases are suppose to do.
Instance, I don't believe there is such a thing as container which can trap light or electromagnet radiation- a laser does this to for a short time, but I doubt one can pump up some kind of bottle that holds this energy for more than a sec or so- but not hours.
Since RL is the expert in lasers perhaps he could comment- but then again, maybe not.
So, for lack of a better term, I can accept the commonly used term which applies to gases which are suppose to act in a similar way to a greenhouse and that CO2 is classified as one of these gases.

- "THe effects on temperature are negligible at best. "- That is nonsense, the science says otherwise...
- No we are not talking parts per million. And anyway, how would you know SteveS' objection till he has voiced it.
- CO2 levels are around 380 ppm (parts per MILLION)
- More used to seeing it as a percent. (n/t)
