This may be hard to believe, but there are points on the curve between Socialist Man and Ebenezer Scrooge
Illustrate that in your posts from time to time, instead of the tedious litany of "gun to the head", and perhaps it'll be less hard to believe.
Mind you, I make no reference to your personal behavior or motivation regarding charity, mercy, forebearance, and those other virtues Marley's Ghost keeps needing to remind us of every December. Political and social policy is group action.
There's been an awful lot of talk about 'trading liberty for security' since this country was shocked into seeing the truth that it is not invulnerable... but all of the talk has been about civil liberty and civil security. Perhaps you might comprehend government assistance to the poor, sick and old - and the portion of your taxes that help to fund it - a trifle more easily if you consider havng traded a small piece of personal economic liberty for national economic security.
