Lump sum payouts from S.S.
So why doesn't S.S. give them a lump sum payout when they ask for it... it would obviously save the program a ton of money...In the long run...
But then that's really it...There is no long run: Its a pay-as-you-go system.
Paying out now would mean that the government would be required to recognize the future annuitized payments in the current period. This increase in liabilities would show that the Balanced Budgets of the Clinton years was based completely on smoke an mirrors. But then thats a whole other story for another thread...
