Re: Actually, they aren't.

Bet North Koreans wish obesity was a health problem among their poor.

Before you continue with your random leftist regurgitations, you might want to actually look at some information.

Do you ever wonder why the only statistic actually paraded around by the socialized health care fans is how many people don't have insurance?

Damn few people die in this country because they try to get medical care, but can't get it. Once you factor out "preventable" diseases such as those caused by smoking, overeating, and other voluntary causes, then factor out causes like people who have access to free alternatives but just never bother to show up (childhood immunizations can be had for free EVERYWHERE), or people who just don't try to get medical care at all, or don't know how to do something simple and inexpensive (folic acid for pregnant women), there isn't a lot left. I tried to find hard numbers, but almost all statistics lump one or more of the exceptions above in, and frankly, I've got other things to do today. Feel free to post numbers showing I'm full of shit. It would be a refreshing change.

If there is a real problem, it's that the poor are not informed enough to use alternatives that are already readily available, and maybe more work could be done on this.

BTW, Medicare pays for individuals at normal risk over age 50 to receive a screening colonoscopy every 10 years or flexible sigmoidoscopy every 48 months. That's without any perceived sign of disease. Younger people don't normally get them. Same goes for most other routine examinations.
