>"Goddamit, even Burger King offers medical to its fry cooks. Who the hell are you talking about? I have yet to see anyone tell me WHY the uninsured people are uninsured. Maybe they want to be? Are there other reasons? Has anyone broken these statistics down as far as causes are concerned? And is the lack of health insurance really the same thing as the inability to get medical care?">
Tom, although I'm sure you're a fine person whom I'd like to know, I can tell you that soem of your ideas are ONLY that, because you haven't certainly EXPERIENCED many of the things that an average lower-to-middle class American experiences on a rountine basis.
Unless you work for a big company, health care is not an option.
Small businesses, seasonal workers, the self-employed and a host of other laborers suffer from this inability to get any decent healthcare they can afford.
Sure there are clinics where you can see a "doctor", a "dentist" and even get cheap medicine for your cold or ear infection, you can forget getting the expensive, illness-preventing screenings that can save your life.
Colon cancer screenings (as in colonoscopies) run into several hundred, if not $1,200 for example.
A family of four at the poverty level will not be able to afford this, even if it is the breadwinner who might be at risk for the cancer.
Your thoughtless, uncaring, uncompromising attitudes towards those less fortunate than yourself is a really unattractive human trait in you.
Fry cooks at Burger King....yeah, right.
And that painter with the two kids.
Or that single mother with the quadrapalegic child.
How about that plumber with the three kids?
Forget anyone over the age of 60, anyone disabled, anyone of a different color, or anyone who lives in a trailer.......
The righteous attitudes of some of the Republicans (and Independents) here STINK!!
