"They hate you if you're clever, but they despise a fool."

Do you deny that the bulk of your posts, particularly your opening threads, are either attempts to point out some contradiction in liberalism, or to illustrate some factoid which demonstrates the inherent truth and virtue of conservative thought, or the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of those who don't follow it's principles? Aren't there political boards where you can exorcize these demons without inflicting them on us, or is it the fact they we're relatively civilized here that keeps on bringing you back? Maybe we're just easy pickin's and we fit all your stereotypes about elitiist liberals.

Not that there's anything wrong in occasionally letting fly a zinger, we all do that, on many topics in addition to politics, but in your case it's why you come here. I suspect it's the only reason. It is a constant and unending litany and it gets really annoying. This is what infuriates your critics, that you seem to feel this board is a place to come and "wipe up the floor with liberals" (a phrase I once heard you utter, although I confess I quote it from memory and I may have paraphrased it somewhat).

I suppose I could simply stop posting as have several others, or avoid all political topics and exercise self-censorship, and simply not say anything when I detect what I feel is a direct attack at something I feel strongly about. Or I might just become a docile little poster and write about sunsets and sea voyages all the time. But I suspect that simply avoiding conflict would just be interpreted as another example of liberal cowardice and appeasement and failure to stand up to tyrants and bullies. I've noticed that neither leaving nor keeping a low profile seems to slow down the Gang of Four one bit. In fact, it is only when they are soundly trounced that they seem to show any restraint, you are the only one who can actually write or compose a logical thought or avoid political anomalism. And certainly you're the only one who can begin to hold his own against fair criticism. But when that happens we don't get to talk about anything else, which I guess is the whole point of the exercise, isn't it? It always evolves into unpleasant little scenes like this one.

This place is addictive, but it's toxic too. I keep on coming and going. I can't stand the constant, unnecessary and ungentlemanly conflict and hostility, but when I'm away I miss the human contact and the friendship, too. But I managed to quit smoking after 45 years, in spite of the pleasure I derived from it, I knew it just wasn't good for me. I think this is another bad habit I'll eventually be able to give up too.
