LOL! I've been right where Tom is now about 4 years ago. To be quite honest Robert, it's painfully obvious you're not being paid to run these boards since you do your best to run off the Producers of captivating content. If you were paid you'd do a lot more to keep the place bopping and hopping. That's not intended as a criticism, merely the obvious lack of market economics on the Zone. The Zone, absent such drive and push, lingers in the web's nether-world of very limited participation.

Like a good fiction novel there is a conflict and resolution. On the Zone there are Producers who provide content for the software and there are the users who come to access the content. Almost all the boards and longest threads demonstrate the same formula - idea, conflict, resolution. If everyone thinks alike there is not much conflict. Too much conflict killed the MSNBC boards, because they were not moderated.

This place "The Habitable Zone" was born to replace them by your coding skills and Justin's youthful desire. Since Justin has grown up his interests have changed and you have inherited the Zone and use it to showcase software and as a prototype testbed for new ideas for your commercial ventures.

Your own politics have been interjected into the Zone since Justin's departure and I have watched the place shift from a mostly conservative bastion to an ultra-liberal place where the four identifiable conservative posters have been labeled "the gang of four" and slandered in no small manner.

Now Tom is being lambasted regularly by folks who posts read like folks posting while suffering from painful hemmorhoidal pains, such as Art and ER, and is being told he is uncivil and has a bad tone. What's more...he's a bully! If that isn't the biggest farce ever, I don't know what is. Tom is like the mildest pussy-footed willow when compared to some posters here who regularly vent their dysfunctional tempers on the board.

Tom's a square, however.

His politics are incorrect.

So he deserves the slander.

Sure, on some dysfunctional boards, and even here, there are some folks who relish being the center of controversy even if it's negative - graduates of the Madonna school of post-etiquette. Tom's not a Madonna graduate. He's addicted to the Zone and so he willingly takes more BS than he should and asks for more.

I just point this out because the workings of the Zone are apparently elusive to some of the participants. They want a place to hang their hat and share, but in this new ultra-left environment some folks simply are made to feel not welcome.

Now you go back to telling Tom he's just a man,with way to big an ego and diminish him further.

To be quite honest, if anyone can't tell that Tom, or me, or Geoff for that matter are actually nice guys after posting here as long as we have - then they have to have som form of serious impairment. And how nice do you have to be to call someone "Johannes-lite" - two meanspirited slams for the price of one.

Oh and I won't forget Lee. Lee has shown more civility in 95% of his threads than many of those who lambast him. Sure he's been stereotyped as a would-be Klan member and like all of us "gang of four" folks have entirely different views on many topics - ones which we don't share. But his views and discrimination are hardly much different than the folks who would discriminate against him. To your credit you have resisted the attempt to have him banned or purged, because all of us paying attention have seen that Lee is not just some white-hooded punk, but is far more complex an individual than his detractors would like to admit. Any of Lee's controversial views should not subtract from him his humanity, or his worth. Look closely...aren't we all in the same boat as Lee? Who here has views that please all?

Just another post for the archive. Tom is his own man and I don't think he will anyday soon leave the Zone of his own volition. That's why folks feel they can dump on him so easily. They know he'll take it and smile. He doesn't need someone to stand up for him, but a few folks stood up for me when I was dumped on, and I appreciated it, so I am returning the favor for a valuable member of the Zone.

It's what us nice guys do.
